Zelensky: Missiles are Russian formula of terror

Ukrainian President Zelensky urged the United Nations Security Council in an emergency meeting on Thursday night to act against the Russian airstrikes. This is reported by Reuters news agency. Zelensky wanted an emergency council meeting to discuss the rocket fire on Ukraine’s energy grid.

“Today is only one day, but we have received 70 missiles. That is the Russian formula of terror. This is all directed against our energy infrastructure. Hospitals, schools, transportation, residential areas have all suffered,” Zelensky said via video link. The Ukrainian president called the attacks “crimes against humanity”. Ukraine wants to see a “firm response” from the world.

Russia fired dozens of missiles into Ukraine on Wednesday, killing ten people, shutting down nuclear power plants and cutting off water and electricity supplies in many places. US Ambassador to the UN Linda Thomas-Greenfield said Putin is entering the cold winter in his war against the Ukrainian people. The Russian president “will try to freeze the country into submission,” she added.

Russia’s ambassador Vasily Nebenzya complained that it is against council rules for Zelensky to appear via video link, rejecting what he called “reckless threats and ultimatums” from Ukraine and its supporters in the West.

Nebenzya said the damage to Ukraine’s infrastructure was caused by missiles fired by Ukrainian air defense systems, and called on the West to stop supplying Kiev with air defense missiles.
